Bob McGinley

CEO & Co-founder

Bob McGinley recently retired from IBM (26 years) as the Global Sales Leader for the IBM Public Cloud platform leading GTM efforts for IBM Satellite, RedHat OpenShift, IBM Power, Skytap and a host of other Cloud products. He developed the sales strategy for all new IBM Cloud products and led the worldwide enablement for commercial, enterprise and technical sellers.

In many ways Bob is seen as a unicorn due to his deep engineering expertise (5 patents in Virtualization, AI, and Firewall Technologies) and his exceptional sales leadership capabilities. His deep technical skills, knowledge of business and product strategy, and ability to communicate at all level of an enterprise organization give him a substantial edge in any sales engagement.

Bob was recognized at IBM for his sales success and overall impact on the business. In 2003 he wrote the technical response to a Public Sector RFP which IBM won for $120M. He then went on to contribute to IBM’s largest ever Public Sector win in 2006 for $1.2B. After some time in Product Development and Technical Sales, he recommitted his selling efforts in IBM Cloud and closed a $44M deal with Veritas and a $1B deal with AT&T. He regularly achieved his revenue target of $100M+ a year.

Prior to leading Global Sales Bob served as the Chief Architect/CTO for IBM Public Sector in North America. Following this stint he joined the Global Technology Services group where he became the Director of Product development for the IBM Middleware Services portfolio, building service products for IBM entire Middleware Service product line (Websphere, DB2, MQSeries, Cognos). In this role he led the development of all technical assets, product pricing, market evaluation, product enablement, and risk assessment.

After IBM he joined SoftwareOne to help their fledgling Application Services organization get off the ground. Within 8 months he had closed over $1.5M in new business and was promoted to Managing Director for Solution Sales of North America where he managed a team of 26 Technical Sellers and generated a Cloud and App Services pipeline over $100M in 2023.

In 2019 Bob was accepted into a Post Graduate program for AI and Machine Learning at Columbia Engineering. The year long curriculum focused on the development of machine learning algorithms in Python and advanced data science techniques to prepare data and train the code. He graduated with honors and currently maintains a high level of proficiency in the field.

Bob came up with the idea of The Tech Leads after noticing a pattern with many potential clients at SoftwareOne. The companies were in legitimate need of help in several areas, but they couldn’t afford the price of expert level consultants. He made the pricing model flexible and subscription based so clients could afford the services and predict their costs
